Trade Show Booth Designs & Ideas

Looking for award winning trade show booth designs? You’ve come to the right place. There are so many factors that go into designing your next display, it can feel very overwhelming. Many first-time exhibitors often browse the internet to look for designs that they like or end up putting together mood boards. Although this is definitely right thought, we believe a crucial step is missed. Here is a list of questions that an exhibitor should ask themselves before they think about their next booth design.

What is your objective at the trade show?

Seems like a fairly simple question, but many exhibitors forget to ask themselves this question before getting started. Is it to get leads for the marketing and sales team? Is it to strengthen your brand awareness? Is it to sell directly to attendees of the trade show? All of the above? You get the point. By figuring out what your company or organization is trying to accomplish, it will help you not get distracted by only focusing on coming up with a stunning trade show booth design.

What are the functional requirements of your trade show booth?

Before jumping into a design, we also believe that you should identify what type of interactions will be happening within your booth space. For example, if you’re a food and beverage company, do you plan on offering samples? Where do you plan on placing and serving the products to the attendees? Many exhibitors in the food and beverage space often find themselves needing a bar or a sampling station. Another example would be if you’re in an industry that requires demo stations, sales kiosks, and meeting rooms. If you need demo stations, will you require a media player or a laptop? Another example would be if you’re in the retail space. If you have many products to display, your booth may require a design that features shelves or to hang clothes. We believe that figuring out the functionality will be important to guide you in your next trade show booth design project.

Does your trade show booth design have a theme?

If your exhibit has a theme, it’s important to find a booth design that will be consistent with the theme. For example, if your company has determined to go with a sports theme, try to stay within design elements that highlight those features. We find that some exhibitors do not follow this guideline, and it can confuse the attendees when you have two conflicting themes occurring in your booth space.

What type of elements are you looking to incorporate into your design?

This is where many exhibitors like to spend the most time in the design process and it’s understandable. Booth design elements can be things like lighting or structural items like towers, hanging signs, canopies, led tiles, etc... This is where putting together a wish list and mood board will help keep things organized for the exhibitor.

What materials are you incorporating in your booth design?

The most common materials used in a booth right now is aluminum extrusion for the structure and fabric for the graphics. Some exhibitors want their displays made out of wood. If you’re looking for something more portable, most of the options will be made out of aluminum extrusion and fabric graphics. We have also seen our customers also go with the hybrid approach where you mix and match different materials. This all just depends on what your goals are.

What design styles should you consider?

There are so many design styles to choose from. Whether it’s modern, farmhouse, rustic, mid-century modern, corporate, and so much more. We believe that this is where your trade show booth design can really shine by incorporating from these design styles to make your next trade show booth stand out on the trade show floor.

What is your budget for your trade show booth design?

We believe that having a concrete budget in mind will help you navigate through the booth design process. We always ask this question because it helps us identify what types of materials to use, what elements to prioritize, and ultimately skip the painful process of designing outside of your budget range.
